The canonisation of Australia's first saint on 17 October has been celebrated in Australia by Christian communities and the general public in ways that we may not have imagined.

Australian Religious have welcomed the transfer of children and vulnerable families out of immigration detention centres into community-based accommodation.

The Sisters of Mercy Bathurst responded to Pope John Paul II's call to ecological conversion by establishing the Rahamim Ecological Learning Community in their western NSW town.

Facebook and Twitter pages, an interactive website, and programs to 'test drive being a Brother' are just a few of the ways the De La Salle Brothers are promoting religious life.

The 2010 AFL grand final day (one) took a different turn in Western Australia, with the Benedictine community at New Norcia hosting a gathering of Religious.

The Daughters of Charity recently celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of two of their Sisters who have given more than 60 years of service to marginalised people.

At a press conference following the canonisation ceremony, Sister Anne Derwin RSJ reflected on the "beautiful, solemn, reverent and spectacular liturgy".
